When you hire a window cleaner you should make sure that they are using the current safety measures.

The other day, I was with a customer and I noticed a problem window. When I discussed the window with the customer, he told me that no one in the past five years mentioned the problem. It seems that the electrical wires were within three feet of the glass. I told him that I needed time to get our power company out to place an insulated cap or blanket over the lines. He was astonished that no one mentioned it. I mentioned that when using a metal pole or ladder to clean a window, you must be over ten feet from any power line. If there are any minute cracks in the insulation, electricity can jump to any metal. You have to be extremely careful around power lines.

I have seen some of my cleaners do things that are not safe. I have written them up and advised them not to do anything like that again. We have a safety program that our cleaners review every week. We inspect our equipment at the beginning of every month, but if a cleaner questions a piece of equipment, we will check it out immediately. I have taken ladders out of use because of problems with the equipment.

When we are using ladders around your house or building, we want to make sure our cleaners are safe. We want them to come back to the office and home without any injury.

HOW DO I CLEAN MY HIGH WINDOWS

Architects are my favorite people. They design homes and buildings that the average person can not get to their windows easily.

When you have those high windows and you get your ladder out to clean them. One piece of advice BE CAREFUL. Studies show that the older you get, you may become afraid of heights. If you are going to clean that high window, remember you should keep three points of contact with your ladder. Also, keep you feet below the third rung. Keep one hand and two of you feet on the ladder rungs. You will probably use an extension ladder. If the window is large, you will have to clean one half at a time or else you will be leaning too far. Studies also show that when you get over 50% of you body past the ladder rails, you will start to feel uncomfortable.

Always use a strip washer and a squeegee to clean your window. This will make it easier for you. Also purchase some lint free towels. Always make sure you have a good rubber in your squeegee. Always start on the edge of the glass and work your way either across or down.

SCHEDULE EARLY

It is Springtime. It is time that nature renews itself. The leaves come back to the trees and the grass starts to grow. It is also time for Spring Cleaning. Just remember that everyone is affected by Spring.

Everyone seems to call at the same time. Our schedules get very tight and we start booking window cleaning six weeks out. If you have a special event coming such as PROM NIGHT, WEDDING, or ANNIVERSARY, schedule your window cleaning as early as possible. In February, we send out our reminder cards and ask you to schedule early. It is important to get on the calendar early. Don’t worry about the weather. If it is raining, we can always reschedule the cleaning, but we need to get you on the calendar first. We save Saturdays for rescheduling rain outs.

We service approximately 1,200 residences a year. It seems that in the first warm week of the Spring many customers call to schedule. Out schedules become very tight. We try to work with some customers in getting a date for their cleaning. We have eleven cleaners, but we only use four to clean homes. These cleaners are very experienced and are given more training on residential cleaning. We work with these cleaners to make sure they are customer service oriented. We expect them to provide the best service to our customers.

BEFORE AND AFTER

One of the questions we get from some our residential customers are regarding the sills (tracks) and coach lights. People asked me about the difference and how we clean these items.

When we do the window tracks, a courtesy wipe is included in the price. What occurs is that when the window is cleaned, water falls onto the sills and tracks. Then we wipe the tracks with one of our towels. This will take care of about 95% of the dirt. The corners may need some extra work. When we charge for the sills (tracks), we take a brush to the entire track and clean all of the dirt. Most of the time, we will use a vacuum to pick up the dirt. On coach lights, we use 0000 steel wool to clean the glass in the lights. This makes the glass and the bronze frames shine. You can look at the photos on our Facebook page to really see the difference. The trick to clean these lights is the 0000 steel wool. This steel wool is very fine and will not scratch glass. We will wet the steel wool and we clean the glass and the metal frames. This will take off the dirt from the glass and any tarnish off of the metal frames.

Another new method we are starting to use is an industrial steamer. We are using steam to remove paint overspray from windows. With the steamer, we do not use any type of razor scraper. It is just steel wool and steam. It shines the glass while removing the paint. This is a new method we are starting to work with. This is very new to the window cleaning industry.

We have been using pure water technology for over ten years. We started with a aluminum pole and now we use a carbon fiber pole.
